Error Message
Got this message today when I sat down at a computer (not my own):
“The system has recovered from a serious error”…
Hmmm, I kind of feel like that, my life, I mean. I sometimes live in serious error and recover.
The really fascinating part though, is the next few lines:
“A log of this error has been created. Please tell ______ about this problem. We have created an error report that you can send to help us improve… We will treat this report as confidential and anonymous.”
I think this message has spiritual undertones. Don’t you?
“A log of this error has been created. Please tell ____ about this problem.”
When I mess up, when I’m in error, somehow, somewhere someone knows, or at least God and I know. And Satan, Satan knows and he logs it and uses it; he creates a log of my errors, my sins. And he fully intends to use it to berate and shame me. The thing is, there’s a trick to this game.
“Please tell _____ about this problem.” That’s the trick. Confessing, I need to confess to God and as much as I don’t want to say it, to someone else I trust…a living, breathing human that can hold me accountable. Somehow, I don’t understand it, but somehow that frees me from the hold the sin/error has, Satan has. It exposes it and allows for recovery.
And gracious as God is to erase that error report once sent to Him, He’s also wise and just enough to use it to help me improve…to remind me when temptation comes a knocking, about the consequences of serious errors and the benefits of righteous living. He treats it as “confidential and anonymous”, but useful and a teaching tool.
Oh, the things your computer can teach you about your faith.
